In Latvian art of the second half of the 20th century, Edvards Grūbe is among those artists most consistently exploring the possibilities of expression through painting. His range of subjects relate to everyday experiences – mother, bread, the window, mushrooms, a variety of rustic still lifes, etc. This catalogue for his solo exhibition at the State Museum of Art presents an account of his artistic laboratory, as told by his wife, painter Inta Celmiņa, and revealed through his work from the 90s, showing him as a major exponent of Abstract Expressionism.
