The album collects more than 200 works by one of the foremost Latvian painters of the last third of the 20th century, also an outstanding draughtswoman Inta Celmiņa.
It is difficult to say why, when contemplating paintings by certain artists, one is overcome by a sensation of happiness. And not even because there might be something cheery or particularly optimistic about them. But this feeling envelops you – and that’s it. You could also say that the anticipation of encountering the works by these artists is like receiving an invitation to a journey, one that promises something of importance to you, something missing from everyday life. For me, that is exactly what it is like with paintings by Inta Celmiņa

Having worked in the field of painting my entire life, I have arrived at the conclusion that the painterly form cannot be expressed in words. Titles and literary explanations do not reveal the idea because it resides in emotions, currents and flashes and perhaps cannot even be found that easily. One has to know how to look at painting, one has to perceive its currents and find a correspondence to one’s own feelings. There are many ways not to see or understand something, to pass by, and yet how many riches are in this field, how many centuries paintings find their audience and give pleasure! And it is not the subject or the events of the era that move us, but human emotions, struggles and ideals in this era.
