Baņuta Ancāne

This catalogue for a solo exhibition by Baņuta Ancāne at the Riga Gallery (2003) includes a major retrospective of work by an artist known for her exquisite lithographs. The story of her life and art is supplemented with documentary photos.

Greek-inspired elements and pantheism, the personality cult and sfumato effects of the Renaissance, the phenomenon of Dutch still-life, intimacy of Romanticism and Goya's visionarism, Mannerist exultation and expressive power of draping, Matisse- and Picasso- inspired elements all have been sublimed by Baņuta Ancāne delicately, neatly, still they remain naively, easily recognisable.
