Katrīna Neiburga

Regular price € 5.00

A book about Katrīna Neiburga by the future art historian Elīna Sproģe is published in the series “Studija Library”.

I have been the founder of a tea mushroom growers’ association, a taxi driver, documentary cinematographer, singer, stage designer, shoe saleswoman, and I’ve never been bored. Yet for some reason people call me an artist. This time I’ ll try to embrace this role.

Katrīna Neiburga

Katrīna Neiburga (1978) is one of the most outstanding artists of Latvian contemporary art. She has received several significant awards (among them the Purvītis Prize – the premier Latvian national art award) and nominations, and has participated in exhibitions in Europe and elsewhere in the world.

Katrīna Neiburga’s art is driven by a yearning for emotion, realness and the preservation of living memory. It is poetry that operates at the level of perception and feeling – bared, imbued with truth, soulful and beautiful. One of Katrīna’s chief means of expression is a deeply personal iconography: it is ever present in her video installations shown in exhibition halls as well as on stage. A constant feature of the artist’s works is an inexhaustible ability and wish to delve beneath the surface, pinning down the common or timeless elements in people’s relationships, and also in their attitude to the past and towards themselves.
