The Heritage of Relogious Architecture and Art in Rēzekne Town and District

The book is dedicated to religious buildings of the central part of Latgale – churches and houses of worship in Rēzekne town and the territory of Rēzekne District.

The compact format of the book gives the reader an insight into the history and splendid interiors of these buildings and by tradition contains evidence also of those buildings and works of art that are nowadays lost or displaced yet remain significant to Latvian architecture and history of art. Richly illustrated, the book serves as a guide to the wealth of the Latvian culture heritage.

Content of the book is based on materials, less known to wider society, from the Monuments Documentation Centre of the State Inspection for Heritage Protection and includes documents form the Archives of the Monument Board collected before the Second World War as well as information from other document repositories and publications of academic research. In order to verify the information and reflect the present situation the authors have  visited all religious buildings included in the book and have made their photo documentation.

The book is supplemented by a glossary of terms and text summaries in Russian and English.
